Cooper Gorfer x Dorotea Saykaly collaboration
Photographer duo Cooper Gorfer reached out to collaborate with Dorotea Saykaly to choreograph and movement direct scenes for their exhibit ‘Between These Folded Walls, Utopia’. Starring young women whose lives have been affected by forced migration, the series was about the loss of utopia and our ability to dream again.
The focus of the tableaus revolved around the story of the protagonist Shadi G with four dancers as the extension of her psyche. The physicality and body architecture of the scenes were choreographed to embody the universal struggle of the mind that can turn from caring friend, to opponent, coaxing, dragging, pushing, fighting us.
The video installation ‘Eternal Play’ as well as the still works of ‘Envious Bodie's' and ‘Push Under Yellow Sky’ were the results of this collaboration.
