Brief candle—
A dream like screen dance
Short film
2013
In this sequel to the screen dance short, PAINTED, Brief Candle breathes life into Andrew Wyeth's timeless 'Christina's World.' The film unfolds within a dream-like and unsettling environment, where bio-electricity galvanizes the protagonist's discovery of muscular intelligence.
The choreography is a manifestation of the protagonist's resilience and burgeoning locomotion. Each step, an insistent choice to move forward.
Brief Candle was captured by three cameras in two 30-minute sessions—once right after sunset and then again just before sunrise the next morning. The cinematic canvas is illuminated by a sprawling light field, comprising 50 lamps, thousands of feet of power cord, and focused visual effects applied in post-production.
Special thanks to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, whose haunting melodies lace the film with a unique resonance.
