SHE
A solo work
morphing identity
Choreographing the Unknown:
SHE, the second stage solo of Dorotea Saykaly, delves into the realms of identity and doubt. Echoing Clarice Lispector’s literary work, The Passion According to G.H. in which the protagonist, alone in a room, spirals into an existential and spiritual crisis, this choreographic work explores of a woman's state of hesitation, where doubt permeates even the sanctuary of her own instinct.
Weaving a narrative through fragmented, interrupted movements, the frozen statuesque composition of the body becomes a living canvas, embodying the paralysis that takes over when in a state of overwhelm and confusion. Repetition and looping in the movement infuse the performance with a rhythmic cadence, revealing a sensual frenzy and rebellion from the imposed gaze onto the female form.
SHE unfolds on the stage through distortion and rebuilding of the body, the deformed soundscape by composer Riku Matinen and an interview with a phantom interrogator.
